The Complete Ryan Reynolds Workout Routine

1 – Ryan Reynolds Diet

Ryan’s diet consists of lots of small meals throughout the day that were loaded with protein and good carbs, he also drank lots of water throughout the day.

Breakfast – 2 eggs, oatmeal with no sugar (use apple sauce to add flavor) and then a protein bar an hour later.

Lunch – Meat (lean chicken, steak or fish) with vegetables and brown rice

Dinner – Fish or chicken with salad and vegetables

As well as having the 3 main meals of the day Ryan would make sure his body never got hungry so he would snack on things such as protein bars, nuts, protein shakes and almonds.

An important aspect of Ryan Reynolds workout routine was what he ate post workout; you need to consume lots of protein to feed your muscles. Also it’s important not to have carbs late at night as your body will not burn them off; this is why Ryan does not eat later than 8PM.

Ryan Reynolds diet meant his blood sugar levels were even meaning he never had the urge to eat lots of food as he constantly gets small meals throughout the day.

2- Ryan Reynolds Workout

The most impressive part of Ryan’s physique is his ripped abs, he has a great six pack (nearly an 8 pack) and very visible obliques. Now his diet contributed to this as in order to get ripped abs you need low body fat, however he also did exercises that targeted his abs to make them more defined.

His favorite exercise involves laying on his back holding a 15kg dumbbell in between his legs and lifting his legs straight up and then lowering then gently. Do 5 sets of 10 x reps. This really targets the lower abs, it’s one of the most important factors of Ryan Reynolds ab workout. Image below illustrates this workout:

He did traditional sit ups to work his middle abs, 5 sets of 15 x reps are good, make sure you go up and down slowly to work your abs hard. Rushing them will not work your abs as good.

To work his obliques Ryan would put his hands on the floor and bring his kness up to his shoulders. The right leg would go up to the left shoulder, then the left leg to the right shoulder. This really engages the obliques and abdominals. The image below shows this workout; do 5 sets of 15 x reps.

Ryan would work one part of his body per day. So one day would be dedicated to his arms where he’d lift dumbbells and use machines to work the arms, another day dedicated to shoulders using dumbbells and then a day dedicated to his abs workout where he’d do the following exercises above.

Another key to Ryan Reynolds ab workout that got his abs looking so great is that he has tight skin, this is done by what’s called the shrink wrap effect. His workout would revolve around firstly building muscles mass and then shrinking his skin so that his muscles and abdominals look more prominent. This is what lead to some people thinking his abs were fake as they were so clear it looked as if they were implants!

Ryan Reynolds Diet

Ryan Reynolds diet is full of natural foods that are high in protein and act as fat burners so that he can maintain a low body fat which allows him to get those ripped abs – see below:

A typical days food for Ryan will include:

  • 2 eggs, oatmeal and a protein shake for breakfast.
  • Lean chicken or fish salad for lunch.
  • A protein bar or apple as a afternoon snack.
  • Brown rice with chicken, steak or fish with dinner. Can add roasted tomatoes to add flavor and beans and any other vegetable.
  • Post workout will be a protein shake, energy drink and if peckish later some nuts to snack on.

You’ll notice all of these foods are natural; processed foods contain lots of sugar and preservatives that cause the body to release insulin which stores body fat. Obviously if this were to happen Ryan Reynolds workout routine would not be as effective.

Because Ryan was naturally slim he didn’t need to have to do lots of cardio, however if you’re slightly overweight then mixing up cardio and weight intervals at the Gym will help to shed your body fat percentage and follow Ryan Reynolds diet.

A really important factor of Ryan Reynolds diet is that you are not hungry before a workout, you should eat roughly 2 hours before a workout and make that a large meal with a good amount of carbs and protein so that you are full of energy whilst working out.

A lot of people that saw Ryan Reynolds in Blade 4 actually thought his abs were created by special cameras or that he’d had some crazy ab implants, this is of course not right! By eating correctly and working out effectively Ryan has been able to stay ripped and lean for 7 years now.

Ryan Reynolds Workout History

Ryan Reynolds has been in movies since he was 14 years old, the first movie when he became more well known was Van Wilder; a comedy about life as an older college kid who sponged off his father. Back then Ryan was not in great shape, although he wasn’t overweight he certainly wasn’t in nearly as good a shape as he is nowadays!

As you can see above, his arms are a lot smaller and his abs are a lot less defined. You can’t make out his six pack and he hasn’t got ripped obliques. Compare this to a more recent picture after the Ryan Reynolds workout below:

Here Ryan’s abs are really ripped, this is due to him having a low body fat and tight skin. His obliques really stand out and these are what most guys fail to work on leading to them having a love handle looking effect which does not look good!

Women love a defined stomach and it was after Ryan Reynolds started to get in shape that women around the world really started to take notice of him; in 2010 Ryan was awarded the ‘Sexiest man alive’ award by People magazine. This is mainly down to his impressive physique which women adore.
